Hi fellow freelancers,
So I was reading a case study from one of my competitors, and they mentioned that they stayed at a hotel in order to get a feel of the website they were building. To give you some background, they are a web development company and this is a hotel resort website that I am viewing the case study of.
That led me to thinking, assuming that the stay wasn't free and they had to pay for the room, would they be able to deduct the room from their taxes as part of business expense? Presumably they wouldn't otherwise be staying at the hotel, and it does make sense that they would want to get a feel of what makes that hotel unique in order to create cohesive branding for the website.
Have you done it for your freelancing business? Other examples that come to mind are expenses like meals (if you are a food writer, or a web developer on a project for a restaurant, etc)
